We will be evaluating your pieces based on grammar, spelling, flow, characterization, pacing, and plot.
Sample Requirements
✦Three samples are required. Each sample must be 2-3K words (an additional 500 words under our min. or over our max is allowed—1.5K-3.5K). Excerpts from longer stories are allowed, but you must submit at least one standalone fic. Samples with themes including quirk mishaps and gore, and/or circus shenanigans are encouraged!
✦At least one sample must be BNHA related.
✦If you are interested in applying to the NSFW add-on, Peep Show, please include at least one NSFW sample.
✦You may upload a portfolio in addition to your samples if you wish.
Concepts
You will be asked to submit 2 concepts. Please include a diversity of ships in your concepts, if including ships. We also encourage freaky solo mishaps, friendships, and general pairings! Your concepts must be SFW (gore and blood are accepted).
✦If you have an interest in Peep Show, we ask that one of your concepts include quirkplay/NSFW themes.
✦Those accepted aboard the zine will also have access to a quirk mishap/quirkplay idea bank which they will have the option of choosing concepts from.
Expectations
If accepted into the zine, Writers will be expected to write a piece that is approximately 2.5K words and quirk mishap centric (non-sexual). Those accepted for the NSFW add-on, Peep Show, can expect to meet the same word count however content must be centered around quirkplay.Artists
Judging Criteria
We will be evaluating your pieces based on color & style, anatomy, character recognizability and background.
Sample Requirements

What is the theme of Freak Show & Peep Show?
The theme of Freak Show, our main zine is quirk mishaps and accidents (this also includes drawbacks), be them humous or fatal is at the discretion of our contributors. While our add-on, Peep Show will focus quirkplay as well as any related mishaps in the bedroom. In alignment with our carnival aesthetic we also welcome contributors to use the circus sub-theme in works too in addition to our main themes.What are Quirk Mishaps & Drawbacks?
Quirk Mishaps are quirk related incidents and accidents that can be both funny or deadly. These are not just limited to the user of the quirk but others that may be effected.
Canon Examples of Quirk Mishaps that you may already be familiar with include but are not limited to Shigaraki decaying his dog/family, Kirishima scratching his eye, and Touya’s “death”. Drawbacks include unusual things (sometimes weird, humous or negative) that happen as a result of using a quirk. Cannon examples of this include but are not limited to Deku damaging his limbs (fingers, arm), Kaminari short circuiting, Uraraka getting nauseous and Aoyama getting a stomach ache after overusing their quirks. These also fall under Quirk Mishaps.What is Quirkplay?
Quirkplay is the use of quirks in a sexual setting. Fanon Examples of QuirkPlay that you may be familiar with are Deku and Sero using black whip or tape as bondage restraints, temperature play featuring characters like Bakugo and the Todorokis, and Shinso brainwashing others to perform sexual favors.Is this zine SFW or NSFW?
Freak Show is a SFW zine however may feature elements such as blood and gore. While our add-on Peep Show is NSFW and will contain sexual content. Given the overall nature of the project all interested including aspiring contributors and consumers must be 18 years old or older.Is this zine for-profit or for charity?
Freak Show aims to be a for-profit zine. The final determination on his will be based on our Interest Check. Click here to fill it out today!How will contributors be compensated?
At the minimum contributors can expect to receive a free digital copy of the zine. Assuming the zine breaks even, contributors will also receive a free Full Bundle. Should sales go exceedingly well, additional compensation may also be available.How many contributors will be accepted?
We hope to accept 6-8 Writers and 15-20 Artists (this includes 2-4 Merch Artists). Please note these ranges are subject to change based on project needs.Will accepted Contributors be given their choice of character or pairing?
Popular characters or pairings may be limited, as we would like to ensure the zine features a diverse range of content. However, contributors will be asked their preferences on contributor apps.How will canonically minor characters be depicted?
Ages in which characters are depicted will be at the discretion of our contributors. However, we will not be allowing Lolicon or Shotacon in our NSFW Quirkplay add-on, Peep Show.Is problematic content allowed?
Themes considered problematic will be considered on case by case basis along with concepts. This content will also be tagged accordingly.Can applicants request application feedback?
Due to the volume of applications we received, we will not be offering feedback at this time.
